Projects financed by the WCI Fund incorporate the W+™ Standard into project design and execution to produce impacts on women’s social and economic empowerment from climate change mitigation and international development projects. The W+ ™ Standard’s rigorous methods and processes ensure investors that projects provide measurable, verifiable benefits to women, resulting in marketable “W+™ Credits” for sale to corporate, institutional or individual buyers.
“W+™ Credits” allow the monetization of contributions of women’s time, knowledge and labor addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation in developing countries, with the provision of a flow of funds back to women’s groups in project areas.
The W+™ Standard has partnered with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, the leading global standard for the voluntary carbon market, to offer W+™ Labelled Verified Carbon Credits (VCUs), jointly labeled under both standards. Co-certification is also done with other standards, including those of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), Gold Standard and others. Credits are registered with the world’s largest global environmental registry, IHS Markit, allowing them to be listed and traded over approved global environmental exchanges.
